2012 Audi A7 Sportback

2012 Audi A7 Sportback

What’s that you say? Audi’s A8 luxo-barge too big for ya? Poor thing. And the A4 is too small and the A6 is too hum-drum for such a stylistic person? Audi’s hoping to fix that with a new addition to their lineup: the 2012 Audi A7 Sportback, a 5-door hatchback based on the Audi A6 with many of the gadgets from the A8 plus colossal trunk space.

When it hits the shores later this year as a 2012 model, the A7 Sportback will be in very rare company. Initially only offered with the companies superb 3.0 “TFSI” supercharged V6 (300HP, 324LB/FT’s) it will be powerful enough to compete with the Porsche Panamera V6 (296 HP, 294LB/FT’s) but with the addition of Quattro all-wheel-drive. It will have higher seating capacity than Mercedes’ CLS with 3-abreast the back though only two seat belts, the capability exists. The A7 Sportback will have massively more trunk space than the Jaguar XF sedan and yet won’t be nearly as much a eyesore as BMW’s Gran Turismo monstrosity.

When the A7 Sportback arrives in America later this year, it will be in rare company. Its single engine offering will be plenty for most and efficient enough for everyone. Audi has a history of making a splash with each example and the 2012 Audi A7 Sportback will prove no different. Or just wait for the S7 version to debut in Paris this fall.

Autoblog - “Audi has made much of its headway over the last few years by being a design leader, and that torch has clearly been passed to the A7, a car that boldly presumes to challenge the long-held stereotype that Americans don’t buy hatchbacks – especially one with a premium price point. ”

Car and Driver – “This is clearly a luxury car with sportiness playing second fiddle”

Popular Mechanics – “While Audi has Mercedes-Benz firmly in its sights with this new five-door hatchback, it’s also making a style statement. But it’s doing so in the understated way that Audi has adopted as a trademark. Not as ostentatious as the newly updated Mercedes CLS”

Car Magazine (UK) – “So what exactly is the new Audi A7? It’s Audi’s answer to the Mercedes CLS, a luxury saloon that thinks it’s a coupé. Unlike the CLS… the Audi has an opening hatch instead of a saloon boot. Think A5 Sportback but on a bigger scale.”

What Car? (UK)- “The A7’s cabin is packed with as much treasure as a pirate ship. ”

Pistonheads.com – “There’s no doubt about it, getting behind the wheel of a well-spec’ed A7 is a definite ‘feel good’ experience.”

Autoexpress (UK, video) – “Besides the R8, we think it’s one of the best looking models in [Audi's] range.”

2010 Mercedes Benz G55 AMG

UrbanDictionary.com’s user’s define “murdered out” as a vehicle having matte black paint on the body and rims with blacked out taillights and trim along with dark tinted glass all around. If ever there was a vehicle better suited for the job, this is it. The Mercedes Geländewagen was Germany’s predecessor to the Hummer H1 for use by military’s all over the world when it was introduced in 1979. After numerous body-style changes all of which retained the brick-like stature of the off-roader and ending with the most recent W463 in 1990.

The W463, the first G-class model officially imported into the US started in 2002, was quickly popularized by Hollywood. Three years after its introduction a supercharged G55 AMG model was introduced besting the previous G55 AMG’s horsepower rating by 130HP. For 2010 the G55 AMG has an even 500HP allowing a 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds and an unmatched road presence.

Today’s eBay find is a completely murdered out example of one of the finest off-roaders available.  The exterior paint is mostly matte “Military Stealth” black paint with some trim pieces being glossy black, including the aftermarket Lexani wheels (which are wrapped in off-road not high-speed treads).  The front grill has been replaced with a simple mesh unit and the brushguard dipped in black-chrome.  Moving to the interior,  its all about replacements: the wood trim has all been replaced with carbon fiber pieces, leather inserts in the doors and on the dash with Alcantara and even some Alcantara, all of which are of course black. Showing only 2600 miles on the clock and located just north of Chicago, bidding on this G55 starts just south of $80,000.

eBay Find: 2006 Ford GTX1

Posted by beber2600 on March 23, 2010

2006 Ford GTX1 GT

The 60′s Ford’s GT40 was created because Henry Ford wanted a Ford racing at Le Mans and he got his wish. In 1966 Ford got its first victory in the series (4 times on the trot) with that iconic car powered by either 289 C.I. or 427 C.I. Ford engines. Although that car from the 60′s was never street legal (a few were brought back to America and “legalized”), like all great things “American” you could buy a copy and build it at home in your spare time as a kit.

Ford realized it could profit from the love of the original GT40 and in 2003 introduced the Ford GT to showrooms. Promising the same great lines and styling of the original GT40 without the headaches the GT was powered by an SVT tuned version of Fords ubiquitous 5.4L V8 and added modern conveniences like A/C, a Macintosh Stereo, and simple soundproofing. 540 HP, 0-60 MPH in as little as 3.3 seconds and looks to die for sounds good, right? Well its been nearly 4 years since the Ford GT has been out of production but that hasn’t stopped various aftermarket tuners from delivering specialized versions of the car for those who want… more.

Enter the Ford GTX1: this one is the roadster. For a cool $48,000 on top of the base Ford GT’s MSRP Genaddi Design Group will outfit your GT with a roadster conversion (read: a million miles of headroom) as well as supercharger, suspension, and brake upgrades. Today’s featured car is Kandy-apple red with a tan interior (in true Ford fashion the GT’s interior was available in “any color you like, so long as its black”), various suede pieces, and a carbon fiber aero package. This GTX1 has just 1200 miles on the clock, a 700HP upgrade to its Ford V8 and is located in Jonesboro, AK. Bidding starts at $269,980.
